My First HAED

This is called Dizzy Heights Artwork by Kirstin Mills.  If I'd had the money I'd have bought a ton of  the charts on HAED website.
The finished chart will be 16 W X 11-1/8 H.
I need to get the 25 count fabric and then all the 86 colors of thread including 1 fine braid.  EEEK!

Luckily the wonderful members of ILCS calmed me down from my panic attack and gave me some wonderful advice.

We're doing a SAL HERE

Wish me luck!

My Daughter's Rose

Kayla's Rose
It's Finished!  She is planning on hanging it somewhere in her room.  We framed it with some ribbon we had laying around.

Who wants to bet the little one asks for something next?  lol
Take care all!

The Roses

Roses are my absolute favorite flower. Call me traditional, but those blooms are just the most beautiful. I have around 18 rose bushes in my yard. I am working on getting a few of the Old English Roses to add to my garden since I don't have any at all. This pic is from David Austen site it is of the Winchester Cathedral Rose.

Back to the topic at hand, I bought this old book of rose patterns and have been working on a few of the quick to stitch.

The one was for the Secret Sister Key chain.

I also made this, a double sided small bag that I fully intend to turn into a sachet as soon as I figure out exactly how to go about it and find the lavender to fill it. Roses outside, lavender inside, screwy I know, but it works. I managed to find some Lavender charts to make legitimate sachets at some point in the future.

My daughter has decided she absolutely must have a rose. She picked a small pattern of a pink shrub rose. I am currently working on that. I am going to write something around it, maybe the kind of rose or her name, I'll think of something.

St. Patrick's Day Freebie 2012

I love Irish Blessings. My ancestors were Irish so it fits.  This has always been a favorite of mine.  "May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks in the fields."  I stuck it next to a cute clover and here's your cute little chart for St. Patty's Day.  Just email me at mabscraftmail@yahoo.com and I'll send it to you.

My favorite Irish Blessing is
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My Friend the Hairdresser

I recently made a friend of a hair stylist.  She is a wonderful woman and is fast becoming a very good friend. She has a daughter in my Scout Troop and she has joined as an adult volunteer (she is basically an assistant leader).

She did me a huge favor and cut my daughters' hair at a discount price at her home.  My older daughter was so happy to have her hair done, the little one was cool with it but would rather play games.

Ms. S gave Kayla a whole salon experience. She used a flat iron to gently curl the bottom under and used special salon style hair care products.  I feel a little lacking in my mothering, I was a tomboy and the whole girly-girl thing escapes me most days.  Apparently my daughter has a deep girly-girl soul buried under the toad chasing and mud-pie making girl she usually presents. Ms. S in no way made me feel bad that I discovered that I was not mommy most perfect.  I am unbelievably grateful that she opened my eyes to my daughter's growing into her feminine side.

I made up this chart and plan to stitch it for her in my appreciation for the gift she has given me. It is a quote from Joan Crawford,"The most important thing a woman can have - next to talent, of course - is her hairdresser."   Email me or comment here if you'd like the chart.

Ms. S has also told me I can ask her anything in regards to styling etc. this will come in handy in the coming teen years.  I am not ignorant of the girly-girl stuff just limited so I'll take all the help I can get LOL.  Wish me luck when Kayla truly expresses her sense of style.

World Thinking Day

If you are a girl scout then you know all about this.

WAGGGS
World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

Each year on February 22, World Thinking Day, girls participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.  Here is a chart I found in freebies a few months back. Stitch on Navy blue fabric with yellow floss.
This post is dedicated to all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts out there.  Cheers to you all and congrats on Girl Scouts reaching 100years.

Good Luck Clover

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

A four leaf clover that says "May each petal of a four leaf clover bring you good health, good luck, love and happiness."

I have a gold plated Gerity four leaf clover hanging above my door for good luck.  There has been one above a door in my home since I was a child.  The back of mine is engraved with;
 "One leaf is for hope,
And one is for faith,
And one is for love, you know
And God put another in for luck."

This chart has the same concept.
Email me for this free chart!  Enjoy!

Free Counted Cross Stitch Chart

This is my first attempt at making my own chart.  I thought since it was close to Easter a bunny chart would be appropriate.  Just say in your post you'd like it and leave an email for me to send it to.  Though Hoppy looks mad here he really doesn't in the chart.

My favorite dragons

I stumbled across this artist in several different locations. Teresa Wentzler had a few projects in several magazines I stole from my mother. Then I found her dragons.
twdesignworks There are some free charts on her site. Tempest in a teacup dragon has the most adorable expression on his little face.

I have yet to purchase this chart but I fully intend to as soon as I manage to decide which other one I might wish to get with it.

Kristin Mills is an artist. Her dragons are also very cute. I don't like mean dragons, too often I see them about to eat someone and that just doesn't seem right. I grew up watching Pete's Dragon and The Never-ending Story. I had a hard time believing Dragons to be mean.

Kristin's art has been turned into counted cross stitch. I found several charts based off her artwork on Heaven And Earth Designs.
This is the one I'm doing for the ILCS SAL.

I recently found Randal Spangler.  ILCS mum shared a chart she wanted and he was the artist of the print the chart was based on. http://www.randalspangler.com/\
More cute Dragons!

For my sister-in-law

This is a little ornament I made for my sister-in-law. (design from Brooke Nolan)

She is originally from Columbia and married my husband's Brother this past summer.

Beautiful, isn't she?

She has a heart of gold and both my girls love their Tia Lital and Tio Byron. (Aunt Lital and Uncle Byron) She is learning to speak English more everyday and I am still horrible at speaking Spanish. They have moved to New Mexico so we miss them dearly. I am hoping to take the girls out for a visit soon.

Links to my favorite freebie chart sites.

There are many many many freebie sites online. You really just have to take an afternoon or two to find a larger number of them. Open an email account specifically to sign up for your freebie groups etc. I have had increased spam emails with some of the public sites I've signed up with. It is worth it to go through everything and get those free charts. A magazine of charts can cost about $7 to $20 per month depending on where they are from. You can find something for everyone in the free charts. Making it a special gift for someone is all in the finishing.

I have also purchased numerous charts online. I have found that the craft stores just don't cut it anymore with inventory. I guess I'm picky but I'd much rather have it emailed to me.

Here are some of my favorite links to free charts.  Don't forget to look at the top left of this page for links to charts I made and published for free for you.

My 7yr old can stitch

My re-entry to counted cross stitching came about through my daughter. My mother has always done stitching when she has the time. Over the course of several babysits my daughter learned to "help" her Nunny with her stitches. *The definition of help in this case is used very loosely and can in all actuality be more closely defined by hindering.
Nunny was very patient and let her help to her heart's content. Eventually, the demand for preservation of her work prompted her to supply Kayla with her own 14 count Aida fabric swatches, her own flosses, and a hoop to help her hold it. She printed out some kid friendly charts and told Kayla by line what to stitch. I heard many "stitch 4 skip one stitch 3 etc" over the course of a few weeks while creating a pink elephant.

The next project was a kitty, she was very ambitious to finish it very quickly. At this time, Nunny decided to let Kayla in on the history that she had taught me to stitch when I was a child. Kayla got little stars in her eye and started to harass mommy into helping her. I helped her finish that kitty but I made it my next goal to teach her how to read the charts herself. I am thinking I may have to print them out large so she can highlight them when each box is done. It is harder then I thought and this new kitty has had numerous mistakes. Any suggestions on how to help her keep her place?

Now to tie this into my getting back into stitching. I was looking for charts for my daughter online and found zillions! I found a bunch that I wanted for myself and "Wouldn't that just be perfect for so and so's Birthday next month?" in addition to the ones for children. Well mom is really big into her yahoo groups of fellow stitch friends. They have numerous swaps, give-a ways and contests. She was the recipient of a roll of 18 count Aida. Now mom is in her 60s and even with numerous magnifying glasses and silly gadgets stuck to her head and lamps, she still has trouble seeing those tiny holes. She passed on the 18 count to me and let me pick off a few threads out of her supply for several projects. Everyone got Stitched Christmas gifts and they were a huge hit.

I have since been making little sachets etc. with little flower charts and getting those little kits sold in craft stores for $1-$3. I have made several little things for secret sister gift exchanges with the Girl Scout Gold Award Committee as well.
The Keyring was monogrammed once the secret sister exchange was over.
